Sometimes it IS the Little Things
"Cowtown Stacy" is indeed correct! Sometimes it is the little things that can make your day.
Although I love being a Mom, I don't always ENJOY it. Emma has been a bit challenging lately. Frustrating would probably be a better word to describe her attitude as of late. But this weekend, and today, she was really great. A sequence of "little things" have kept a smile on my face.
1. "Mommy, I want to help clean up the playroom". (Usually cleaning up requires lots of bribing and creativity on my part. But Saturday, she just jumped off the couch and started picking up her toys)
2. Sunday was our all church picnic. We have it at the Disabled Veterans Center, and there is a swimming pool. (Swimming was by far Emma's favorite activity this Summer.) She was jumping into the pool, "normally", but then started crossing her legs at her ankles and springing off the side of the pool, legs straight. Tim asked her, "Emma why don't you uncross your legs?" Emma's reply, "BECAUSE I'm being a Mermaid, Daddy!" Her imagination is just unbelievable. And her British accent isn't too shabby! (She loves playing "Peter Pan". She is always Wendy, and dons an English Accent when in that role. It's pretty darn cute!)
3. Today, I was helping her get her tennis shoes on so we could leave for school. As I was tying her laces, she said, "Mommy, you do such a good job of tying my shoes! I'm getting bigger, so I will practice tying my shoes, and then I can tie THEO'S shoes, too! That'd be great!"
4. Driving to school, we passed about 4 cement trucks. Emma said, "Look at those trucks, Mommy! They're so beautiful!"
5. Sometimes I watch Emma and Theo play when they don't know I'm looking. Emma leaned over, gave Theo a big kiss and said, "I love you, Theo. You're my friend."
Yup. Sometimes it's the little things.
