Moving?

Tim and I have have joked about moving out of LA for awhile. Mostly due to the incredibly crappy school system here, and the fact that Emma will start Kindergarden (YIKES!!) next Fall.

Well, I think Tim's serious this time. And I'm for it a bit, against it a bit, and really just freaking out a bit over the idea.

PROS: School system in Baton Rouge (Yes, folks, Louisiana) is stellar. I actually found the public school I'd send Emma to, and it scores a 10 out of 10 on Greatschools.net. We could buy a killer house with an equally killer yard. Tim would be a BIG fish in a SMALL pond. He'd be able to start his directing career (something he won't be able to do here easily because we need him to work the 75 hours a week in order to live, so taking a break to work for free isn't really an option unless we want to move to skid row) Plus, with more and more films coming there (our very good friend Louis is on the board of directors for the Louisiana Film Office there) Tim could easily find work during projects. Also, there is no Loop Group there, and with more and more films shooting there, we've thought that Tim, Louis and I could start the first group, and really could make a living doing that. And, there are no private acting classes. Louis has been asked to coach several people for auditions, and his number of clients is getting huge. He is able to charge $100 - $150 an hour! I will be able to come in on his shirt tails and do that as well. Also, Louis is talking about starting a "school" there for acting classes, and I could head up the kids/young adult division. People there are willing to spend money on this sort of thing.

CONS: Our friends. They won't be moving. And that is a HUGE con. Seriously. Our church. Yes, there are churches in Baton Rouge, but ours is, well, special. We are a TOTALLY affirming church, and I have come to expect that of all churches I attend. Emma's pre-school...it's amazing. I hate the idea of Theo not having that same experience. I'm not sure if I would find another one like it, where kids learn sign language, take Yoga, gymnastics, music, swim lessons. It's truly one of a kind.

Our idea right now is to just rent our house here in Los Angeles for a year, maybe two, get Tim's directing career going, and then move back. I just don't know. I'm scared of change. I love it here, I really do, and I know it's "not going anywhwere". I just don't know.

I think that Shreveport might be worth looking into as well. That's there they built new soundstages. Lots of filming going on in Louisiana. Michael Clifford has been working there a lot, relocated there from Lithuania. Incredible food in Baton Rouge!
