Update on Caitlyn
So, it's been a LOOONNNNGGGG 9 days. Caitlyn went home tonight. They ran every test in the book, including a 48 hour Video EEG. The Metabolic Disorder expert does NOT think she has a genetic metabolic disorder. This is VERY promissing. His belief is that she is having "absent seisures". The only odd thing is that these types of seisures usually do not present themselves until children are 13 or 14 years old. Alas, we'll know more August 27th when all the test results are back.
Thanks for you thoughts and prayers.
On another side note...
I have posted here before about my neighbor's baby, Kai, who was born at 26.5 weeks. He was doing fantastic. Settling into life at home quite well. Amy and Steve took Kai to Denver so Amy would have help with the baby while Steve was in New York on business. (her parents couldn't come here because of work) Anyway, on Monday, something went crazy. Kai's intestines became twisted, or something, and his stomach swelled to 3 times its size causing pressure on both his lungs and heart. Amy and her Dad did CPR while her Mom called 911. The paramedics that arrived didn't really know what to do (he's a TINY baby), so Amy and her Dad continued CPR in the ambulance while medflight was called. The police had blocked off the highway for the helicopter. Kai was then air lifted to Children's Hospital in Denver where he underwent surgery. He's doing okay, for now.
I shudder to think of what the outcome might have been had Amy been home alone with Kai when this happened. How can you do CPR AND call 911 at the same time? Makes me think I need brush up on my CPR skills.
Keep Kai in your thoughts and prayers.
