To Move, or Not to Move...
That is the question!
So, as I mentioned before, Tim is in Baton Rouge scouting the place out...again...after we had pretty much decided NOT to move. Now, the potential moving discussion is back on. I'm a wreck. I haven't slept. I just wish that God, or a psychic, or someone would be able to tell me that we should or should not move.
Here are the cons (in no important order):
1) It's really conservative (not just religiously or politically).
2) We'd be leaving our entire support group, friends we've had for 20 years, and our church.
3) We'd have to rent our house at a major loss due to the shitty housing market.
4) We'd be moving... and all the crap and drama that goes with it.
5) Finding a new house, new schools for both kids...
6) I'm so shy that the thought of having to make new friends really freaks me out... no matter how stupid that sounds...
7) We'd be giving up California weather and moving where they have mosquitos.
8) The kid's pediatrician (and our doctors) are not there. Will we find another pediatrician who no only makes house calls, but brings Starbucks when she comes?!
PROS:
1) I can potentially make a lot of money. I'd be able to support the family, making more money than Tim does now, but only working 16 hours a week.
2) I'd still be able to do my acting thing
3) Tim could focus on his directing career because he wouldn't HAVE to work (see #1)
4) The quality of life for our kids
5) Closer to our family and lifelong friends... (Hi E!)
6) We'd both be big fish in a little pond
7) Walls there have already been broken down for us, and the folks in "the biz" who live there are excited for us to move there and WANT us there.
8) We'd have a house 2 times as big as the one we have now, with a mortgage at about 1/3rd what we pay now....
BUT: Will we be able to rent our home? If we do, it will be at a HUGE loss (which I know in the long term is not a big deal because we'd make that money back... but man, it'd be a PAIN IN THE BUTT!) . So, we're talking adding at least an additional $1,500 a month onto what our living expenses would be in Baton Rouge.
Okay, so I realize that Los Angeles most likely is not going to be going anywhere, so if we do move, and it totally sucks, we can always come back... but to what? Tim will loose the contacts he has here, so finding work for him will be a challenge if HE'S not successful in BR. And the kids are still young enough to be flexible. Cliques don't really start for kids before 2nd grade, do they? So if we move back in 2 years, Emma will be able to fit in, right?
I'm about to go pray. Do some meditation. Give my worries up to God...
Hey, Stacy... you seem to get "signs"... can you send some my way?!
