Sex Ed
Emma has been asking LOTS of questions lately, about everything, really. Over the past 2 months, though, her main questions have been centered around "How does God put a baby in Mommy's tummy?" (For the record, I never told her that God puts babies in tummies. I'm thinking that she somehow deducted that from the belief that God created people.)
I think I've done a fairly good job at answering her questions... without shock, without stuttering, fumbling, etc. So far we've covered the fact that girls have eggs (she insisted that I show her a medical diagram of a woman's reproductive organs, pointing out the ovaries, fallopian tubs, eggs... Oh, and she figured out that the baby comes out of the vagina.), that men have sperm, and it takes both to make a baby. We've also talked about the menstrual cycle, C-sections.
The only question she hasn't asked is "How the sperm gets from the Daddy into the egg inside the Mommy". I'm expecting this one fairly soon.
Keeping in mind that Emma is not yet 5, can any of you recommend an age appropriate book that explains this next level of questioning?
So far, most of the books I've found are really more suited for kids who are 8-10 years old.

Wow.
BUT, how GREAT is all the discussion! Talking is good. We did tell Joseph that God gave us our babies, and that was enough. But only because he is so deeply interested in talking about how I fed him, and feed Carolyn, with my boobs.
I will email you a title later today - I remember talking with a girlfriend about this very subject at church not too long ago - I'll see which books she used.
Awesome! Thanks!! I do think it's great that she's asking me questions... it's sort of setting the foundation of our relationship regarding more "touchy" subjects. I'm hopeful that since my response is really open, honest, matter of fact (on her level, of course) then she'll feel comfortable coming to me all the time, as she gets older. Although, my parents were totally open, and I was WAY too embarrassed to talk to them about anything. I just went to Toby for all my questions.
