Perhaps My Final Political Post
The past week has sucked for me. (To loose friends over my views on Prop 8... Okay, it's really not a shock to anyone who has known me for a MINUTE that I'm a Gay Rights Activist, so the fact that all of a sudden these people are sickened by me and think I should loose my kids... but I digress)
If Bush is a Republican example of "Small Government", then I'm even MORE convinced that voting Republican is absolutely a bad idea. If you HAVEN'T lost money due to the fact the dollar is worth CRAP right now, and our economy as a whole is just in the pooper, then I want to switch to your financial advisor.
Frankly, due to the fact I'm only 35, I don't recall a Presidency prior to Clinton that had an effect on my life. Perhaps I was just more aware, and able to actually become involved in conversations with my Mom and Dad discussing our views. (I'm one of those kids who is a total product of their parents: I bleed blue) From what I've heard from those (very few) folks I know who are upper class... they made more money during the Clinton years and have lost more than they ever have during the Bush years. The dollar was so strong (during Clinton), we had international respect, unemployment was at an all time low... and you're trying to convince me that another Republican is the right choice? I don't see it.
Those of you who may be fooled that McCain will not raise your taxes, let me break your bubble. He'll HAVE to raise taxes. It may not be payroll, or something you will find obvious, but I guarantee you'll find some Federal Tax Deductions no longer available... oh, and do you think the Gas prices are high just because of the price of oil? Whomever is elected, our taxes will have to be raised. And being in California, I'm doubly screwed. Don't even get me started on the awesome leadership Republican Governor Arnold has provided (note the sarcasm).
And I really don't buy the argument that helping the lower class will keep them from wanting to achieve. I've BEEN lower class. I've BEEN on food stamps. It's a horrible, vicious cycle to get out of, and being able to live for one day NOT hand to mouth is a blessing and proof of opportunity. So, for me, personally, to have some help would not have made me strive less, it would have given me the opportunity to achieve.
Seeing as I want focus on education, health insurance I can actually get (and afford!) with Theo's pre-existing condition (and not have it come from Nebraska or some other state where the laws are totally different and could prove worthless in CA... which CAN happen under McCain's plan), that I'd like a President who's not afraid to use his voice before a gun, who will protect my right to choose, who will begin healing our Planet from Global Warming, who has an economic plan endorsed by some incredibly reputable folks (Warren Buffet), who inspires people to get involved, who has the family values I believe in, who is calm under pressure, who is respected on both sides, who will listen to someone who disagrees, and who will govern from the bottom up and not from the top down... I'm voting for Obama, and I'd love it if you'd do the same on November 4th.
I heard an awesome saying the other day on NPR: Rosa sat so King could walk. King walked so Obama could run. Obama ran so our kids could fly.
No matter who you support, I just hope you go VOTE!! It's such an incredible gift we have in this Country. Use it.

You go, girl! I'm sorry you lost friends. That is terribly sad.
But if Obama wins, I hope that's at least some consolation.
