My Soap Box

Two things:

#1. I do not understand ignorant people. I was rocking out to NPR today (yes, I am so cool!) and some lady out of New Orleans was saying that she's switching her support to MCCAIN from Obama because of what his "Minister" said. I'm sure most of you have heard most, or all of the sermon Obama's former pastor made post 9/11. Now, the guy is a bit whacked in some of his ideas, I'll agree to that. (Although the particular sermon causing so much hubbub was not at all offensive to me...you have to listen to the entire thing) Let me just say, that I am so thankful that I am not judged by statements friends and acquaintances of mine make. My former pastor did some illegal acts, none which I supported, however I stayed at that church knowing everything and while he was still pastor. Does that make me an awful person? I think not. I have friends who smoke pot, or have been addicted to cocaine/meth/heroin, friends who spank their kids, friends who swear, friends who have shoplifted, friends who have stolen money from family members or from work. Now, I don't support any of these "acts". I don't condone these behaviors, but these are not the only qualities these people have, and they do not define me. Hell, Jesus himself loved some pretty darn questionable folk, didn't he? Therefore, to switch support to Mccain based on what your FORMER PASTOR SAID, is just plain ignorant and stupid to me. Oh, and if I have to hear one more time that Obama is Muslim (which frankly isn't that big of a deal to ME)... PLEASE for the love of everything holy, DO SOME RESEARCH!

#2. Universal Health Care. There are some blatant flaws to me in this plan. It's a great idea, in theory, however, here's my question: What good is it to have insurance if the doctor you see does not accept your insurance? I'm speaking primarily for when you are admitted into the emergency room at the hospital. This happened to me awhile ago... I'm sure I wrote about it. Anyway, what I feel needs to change first, is that every doctor who applies and receives privileges to practice at a particular hospital MUST accept the insurance the hospital accepts. So, if I go to a hospital under my insurance plan, I don't have to worry about being assigned an emergency room physician who does not accept that plan, and the I won't be someone who HAS insurance that's still stuck with a $900 doctor bill.

I'm stepping down now. For the moment, anyway....
