July 4th
I'm feeling terribly guilty at the moment. Emma has been begging to go somewhere, do SOMETHING "for the 4th of July", and I simply don't feel like leaving the house. She keeps tossing around ideas: Let's go to the beach! Let's go to the park! Let's go swim!, and I just can do any of these things.
We dropped Tim off at the Flyaway bus station a few hours ago. (It's a round trip bus service that goes to the airport, and is only 5 minutes from our house, and you don't have to deal with traffic on the 405!). We'll meet up with him in Alabama July 30th.
On a more positive note, I took Theo to the new Asthma/Allergy specialist yesterday, and I love this new doctor! He is totally personable, and you can tell he loves kids. He's MAYBE 3 years older than I am, has his own 2.5 year old, so totally spoke Theo's language. Anyway, I feel really great about the path we're on to keep Theo's asthma under control. We go back in 2 weeks for a re-check and so Theo can get tested for environmental allergies. (Something his former "specialist" did not want to do, for some reason). I still have Theo off dairy 99%. He begs me for an occasional yogurt. Really, dairy isn't that big of a deal regarding Asthma. It just makes him produce more mucous... it doesn't make him start wheezing, or anything. So, for now, we have him on Flovent inhaler, singulair (for just a week, then we're stopping it as it really doesn't seem to have made any improvement), Nasonex nasal spray and Xopenex (inhaler) as needed. The goal is to get him healthy, get his lungs working at full capacity, then taper off the medication. There aren't any long term affects, which I was really concerned about.
Buddy (our incredibly expensive "rescue") has now begun digging and eating the kids books. So now, we have to keep the playroom blocked off 24 hours a day, which sucks. I've put Cayenne Pepper on all the spots where he digs, but that hasn't helped a bit. Tim clipped his nails this morning so hopefully, that will help. Ugh.
Oh, and I'm redoing Theo's room. Getting rid of the nursery decor (it's really not that bad...it's a safari theme) and replacing it with Spiderman. The boy LOVES Spiderman. He runs around pretending to shoot webs out of his wrist, which I think is really funny seeing as he's never once seen the cartoon, or movie. I'm sure one of the older kids at school showed him how to do it. It was a bit of a toss up between spiderman and an ESPN theme. (The boy loves him some sportscenter. In fact, he gets his hair cut at a place called Sports Clips where they have sportscenter streaming non-stop). But I think Spiderman is way cooler than a sports theme, so thanks to E-Bay for under .... drum roll please ... $40 he's getting a Bedding set, a Spidey "Fat Head", spidey transfers, 2 valances, a vintage fabric wall hanging, and some dresser knobs. I also ordered 5 yards of the same fabric as the valance to add some panels to his curtains and make a few throw pillows.
Tomorrow we're getting him his Radio Flyer "My First Scooter" as his reward for being fully potty trained. Man. This boy was so easy to potty train. Although, not ever having a boy, and Tim doesn't remember... when do you start having them stand up to Pee?
On another side note... my Dad's beloved dog, Tigger, died this morning. He is simply devastated. Tigger was treated like one of my siblings, seriously. I talked to my Dad after I got his E-mail this morning, and he's still really torn up about it.
I did manage to put our flag out today, and I think I'll take the kiddos swimming after Theo's nap.
Happy Independence Day everyone!

Joseph peed outside pretty soon after he was potty trained. Yuck, I know, but convenient on camping trips and once or twice in the Target parking lot.
Anyhow, once he got a taste of that (and was taller than the toilet bowl) he started standing up all the time. Those discussions and training sessions were Daddy's work, though. Joe got mad at me because I taught Joseph to use the little opening in his underwear to pull his penis through, but apparently REAL MEN don't use it.
Who knew?
Really? the don't use the opening? Sheesh... who knew is right!
Don't even talk to me about expensive dogs. We are approaching $4000 on our Golden Retriever who, because of a birth defect, has had two knee surgeries in the past 6 months.
As for potty training...after a few weeks Patrick just decided to try it turned around the "right" way on his own. At first he would stand on my feet in order to reach the potty, but now he's tall enough to do it on his own.
