Getting to know you...Holiday Style

I stole this from my friend, Sue. (Hi, Sue!)

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?

Both. I love Egg Nog, and REALLY love Hot Chocolate, but it has to be made my way: 2 packets (Preferable with the mini marshmallows) . Add one packet and mix well, then top with the second packet and gently FOLD the mixture in, so that it's chunky. Then eat the chocolate chunks with a spoon and drink the rest.

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?

Santa does not wrap our gifts. He leaves them for each child in their own particular "spot". That way, Santa does not have to buy extra wrapping paper (can't have the same paper as Santa...might blow his cover)

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?

Both. But not blinking. I hate the lights that slowly fade in and out.

4. Do you hang mistletoe?

No, but my Mom used to climb our tree and cut boquets and hang them in the doorways around the house.

5. When do you put your decorations up?

Idealy, December 1st, but realistically, well, lets just say I'm still decorating.

6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?

My Mom's cheese ball. It is AWESOME!

7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child?

Hanging the carrots and apples from string out our second story bathroom window for the Reindeer. Toby and I would race to the window in the morning to see if they'd been eaten, and there we'd find apple cores and nawed on carrots. I also liked the thank you notes from Santa for the cookies and milk. Oh, and trying to stay up until midnight to hear the animals talk.

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?

I THINK I was in 4th grade, I'm not sure. I asked my brother if Mom and Dad were really Santa, and he said, "Yeah, but DON"T tell them you know! If you do, we won't get any presents!"

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?

Yes.

10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree?

- Colored lights, white lights, a hodge podge of ornaments: some we've had since childhood, some homemade, and then we put glass icicles around the edges and string with multi-colored strands of beads. It's very colorful and sparkly.

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it?

Love watching it on T.V., or for one day, but I do NOT miss the Chicago white winters, and LOVE that today, December 6th, it was 80 degrees!

12. Can you ice skate?

Not well. I'm not too fond of sports/activities that you have to do when it's freezing outside. Although, I did love ice skating in New York beneath the big tree.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift?

I remember what I was SUPPOSED to get. I could never hold in what I picked out for my brother, so one year, I told him I'd tell him what I got him, if he told me. Well, he told me that he got me a boom box. Oh, yeah! I was SO EXCITED! My own personal boom box! Visions of what mixed tapes I would make for our trip to Grandmas filled my head. I saved that present for the very last, I was so excited. I grabbed the box...oh...it was heavy! I opened it so carefully. Handful by handful, I took out the styrofoam peanuts thinking, well I guess it's the smaller version (single tape deck, not double). I felt my hand touch something. I pulled out the 45 single for Toni Basil's MICKEY. Then, at the very bottom of the box I found a 5 pound weight from my brother's weight bench.

15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert?

Hmmmm....anything but fruit cake. I love Peanut Brittle, and these graham cracker-honey-pecan coated things my Mom used to make...oh and homemade peppermint ice cream.

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition?

Christmas Eve service at church, when we light the candles, turn out the lights and sing "Silent Night". As a child: my Dad would make us wait at the top of the stairs until he went down to see if Santa had come. He would torture us sometimes...making us wait for what seemed like hours! Now: With Emma it's our Advent Calendar. We have the coolest one. It's a magnetic board with a stable scene painted on it. It's surrounded by these little doors, each numbered 1-24. Emma just LOVES counting to the one we're supposed to open, and seeing what it is. Last year, she placed the Wise Men up in the sky and kept calling them "super heros".

17. What tops your tree?

A blue atenae looking thing.

18. Which do you prefer giving or Receiving?

Yes please.

19. What is your favorite Christmas Song(s)?

What Child is This? and Oh, Holy Night.

20. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum?

YUM! (especially when they're a little stale and a bit chewy)

I'm adding this one:

21. Favorite Holiday Movie?

White Christmas

Merry Christmas with lots of peace and love to all!
