Life Lessons
Emma has a best friend at school. Her name is Ashley, and they are so.much.alike! It's scary. They look almost like twins, all except for the fact that Emma has blue eyes and Ashley has brown. The girls are inseperable...which is sometimes not a great thing. But they love each other. Ashley will call here about twice a week to talk to Emma, and Ashley is the only girl Emma has ever asked to have come over for a play date. (Emma prefers to play with her male friends...probably so she can be the only princess)
Anyway, Ashley's parents are moving her to a new school, and without going into too much detail, it's not for the right reasons. Ashley's Mom isn't too keen on this. I missed something in the translation this week (she's deaf, and my sign language isn't up to par these days, so I sometimes miss a few key points in our conversations) but she said she was upset and wanted to talk to me. We keep missing each other, and I can assume she wanted to talk about this decision.
There was no preparation, no warning, no chance for the kids and teachers to say good bye (Ashley's been going there since birth). I spoke (signed) to Ashley's Dad this morning, and he told me he had found a new school for Ashley, but I sort of assumed it was for Pre-K (September). Upon picking up Emma from school, Marva told me today was Ashley's last day there. She doesn't know she's not coming back.
On the way home from school, I broke the news to Emma. I wasn't prepared for her reaction. She started BAWLING. Sobbing, saying, "But I want to go to a new school with Ashley! I didn't give her her 'Balentine' Day card, yet." I assured Emma that they would still see each other on play dates, and she just remained silent for the rest of the ride home.
It was so sad. Emma needs LOTS of preparation for change. (takes after her mama)
On a positive note...this means there is FINALLY room for Emma to go full time, which I'll need once my schedule is full from my super successful future business, and it just might mean that Emma and I will survive the remainder 3rd year with a few less tantrums. (Theo will start going one day a week in March so that I can begin getting this business started.)
