Insurance

So due to the writer's strike (which "we" totally supported) my husband was 6 weeks shy of meeting the requirements to receive insurance through the DGA. Therefore, the shopping around for affordable coverage began. Cobra would have cost almost $2,000 a month, so that wasn't an option.

Emma- accepted no problem
Theo - Still pending. (his IN CONTROL illness induced Asthma may cause a 100% rate up)
Tim & I - approved but at a 75% RATE UP! Are you kidding me?

I was treated for situational depression last summer. Went on meds for a bit, they didn't work, so I went off and am doing fine. I was not/am not clinically depressed. I do not need constant medication. I was on the mildest of all the anti-depressants and at the lowest dose. Okay, I can sort of get why I would have been rated up a bit. But Tim? Here's the reasoning:

Tim received a prescription cream for a spot of dry skin that was annoying him. They rated him up for this. Seriously.

I am so PISSED that our insurance coverage is dictated by morons who never went to medical school. Shouldn't doctors determine what might or might not be a medical liability? Argh!!

So as it stands now, we can appeal the decision. And again, our medical charts, letters of explanation, will be interpreted by regular schmos who are trained to not think beyond their pre-determined boxes.
