A job for Kelley?

I realize that I go through this "Oh, man! I need a job! I've got to generate some income!" just about...oh...every 3 months. I've tossed around being a dental Hygenist (thankfully, for those of you who care about your teach, I aborted that idea) a pre-school teacher (but then I found out they make about $8 an hour, and well, that's just not enough to cover my own childcare expenses).

This time, I think I might have found a great solution. Also, seeing as Tim is unemployed as of Thursday until the writers can come to an agreement with the producers, and most folks are anticipating this strike going for about 5 months, I need a job.

So here's my idea. I was talking to my friend from my P.E.O. chapter, and during our conversation we talked about this kind of job, or that kind of job, etc. Then, she mentioned her friend who home-schools her children. This friend has also started Looping (that's when an actor provides the voice to people in the background on a movie, or even voice-matches an actor who isn't available to re-record lines from a film they shot. It's a GREAT job! You don't have to starve to stay a size 0, you don't have to wear make-up, and you could wear your pajamas to work and noone would care! Oh, to be a looper!!) Anyway, her friend has been getting more and more work lately, and subsequently, since she's home-schooling her kids, and not around....

We came up with an idea for me to pitch myself to the home-school community as a substitute teacher for them. I could teach their lessons (these kids are elementary age, so I could do that. Once they hit algebra-forget it. They'd be screwed) or do a day of Theatre Study: theories, improve games, etc. I've also thought of expanding this idea and offering home-school groups an actual theatre program. Everything from Shakespeare to Mamet. (Okay, not Mamet...the language issue) I could even do on camera techinque, etc., have the kids do scenes and monologues, incorporating different styles: Uta Hagen, Laban Technique, Stanislovsky, Grotowsky, etc. I know a lot of kids who are home-schooled take acting classes outside of the home, but this would be more than a "Hollywood" level course. I've also thought of creating a Level 1 & 2 course in Sign Language. Some parents might think that would be a cool "Foreign Language" for their kids to learn. Again, I'm thinking of strictly sticking with the Elementary levels.

Even if the "expansion" idea didn't take off, I could really sell myself as an extremely qualified substitute. "Enriched childcare". We shall see...my friend is hooking me up with her friend so I can talk to her and see if this would work.

Oh Kelley - these sound like WONDERFUL ideas! You are so creative - and that's what's going to make your million. Because you actually come up with the ideas that haven't been done before. I have lots of homeschool families in my neighborhood - if you want me to talk to any of them about their thoughts or ideas to help you out, I'd be happy to.

These ideas are great, and I bet there's a huge demand for them!
